Our Story
What began as a personal challenge to transform a neglected 3-metre balcony in East London has grown into a dedicated practice serving urban gardeners across the United Kingdom.
Founded in 2018, ethereal-vortex emerged from a simple observation: city dwellers were hungry for green spaces but lacked the expertise to make small outdoor areas flourish. Traditional garden design often focused on sprawling country estates, leaving urbanites without guidance tailored to their unique constraints.
We set out to change that. Today, our team combines horticultural knowledge with an understanding of urban architecture, microclimates, and the realities of city living. We know that your balcony catches wind differently than your neighbour's, that the shadow cast by the building opposite matters, and that you need plants tough enough to handle pollution yet beautiful enough to lift your spirits.
